I’m late I’m late I’m late!
After yesterday’s excitement from buying my first photography business workshop ticket and starting to connect with nearly 40 fellow photographers, this morning’s panic just threw the entire day off.
Not only did I wake up late enough to miss my normal train, but also the “back up” train into the city. This is a first for me, as I am typically in a frantic rush every morning to make sure I don’t miss my train. Brandon rushed me to the next train, pulling into the parking lot just as the train was arriving. I jumped out of the car and began to run across the platform to the train. As I ran I thought I heard something drop, but dismissed it for a moment as just being the sound of my big snow boots on the pavement (why did I even bother with them today? It was rainy and gross… not snowy). As soon as I stepped onto the train I reached into my pocket for my phone, then into my bag… to find it missing. I turned around to look back across the platform and street and saw nothing. I KNEW it wasn’t with me anymore, and I had a feeling it was sitting in the street. I saw a bit of purple from my phone case on the curb and jumped off of the train, hoping I could make it back in time. During my mad dash for the street, I heard “caution, the doors are now closing”. I’m not one to use swear words, but a string of them came out as I picked up my phone and turned around to face the train with the doors shutting. That’s about when my heart sank down to the curb my phone was just on. However, a savior in a brown trench coat placed himself in the center of the doors and held them just long enough for me to leap back through them.
Losing my phone or missing the 3rd train in a row may not sounds like a huge thing to some. But I was panicked that I might not have had my phone anymore! If you ask my husband (or really anyone else close to me), they will tell you that my phone might start growing into my hand soon. It is a sad addiction that I’m not so sure I will ever get over. And as for being so late to work… I have a set routine I do in the morning that was now completely thrown off. Make sure there aren’t any voicemails, check for super important e-mails, get coffee and refill my water bottle, eat a Poptart, check the rest of my e-mails, check personal e-mail, check for messages on Facebook. It was like I had been thrown into a different job today. I did everything out of order, I didn’t have time to do everything before a meeting across campus, the whole day was just out of whack.
Now, I’m on my way home and hope to at least get the evening back on track. My goal tonight is to post at least 3 galleries on my website. Hopefully by putting this goal out there, I will feel a little more pressure to actually get it done.
I’ll also be dreaming of being in a place like the one below. Palm trees, sand and an ocean tend to make everything seem less stressful.
Update: So much for getting the night back on track… I came home and plopped down on the bed with my dog, and fell asleep for 3 hours. Apparently, I really took the whole dreaming thing seriously. I guess tomorrow will be more of a “back on track” kind of day.
